Like many Indian transsexuals, known as hijras, Suman boosts her income with sex work. Breast enhancement operations, now easily available in big city hospitals, are increasingly popular among the naturally flat-chested hijras. Suman’s investment is paying handsome dividends. A retirement home for elderly former and current prostitutes has been established in the Teptio neighborhood of Mexico. Casa Xochiquetzal, The House of the Beautiful Flowers, is located in one of the most dangerous parts of the city. It was named after the Goddess of Beauty and Sexual Love. According to Rosalba Rio, director of the house, women must be at least 60-years-old to reside in Casa Xochiquetzal. It can accommodate up to 45 women. They currently care for 23 elderly former and current sex workers.
